Stopping monopolies will help Mexico
Mexico City,- Stopping monopolies and oligopolies, with clear and fair measures, will help Mexico be more competitive, because it will encourage competition to benefit the whole society and will also help many companies be more productive, according to Roberto Capistran Gonzalez, Northeast Region Vice-president for the Mexican Chamber of Processing Industry (Camara Nacional de la Industria de Transformacion).
Interviewed yesterday about the amendment to Federal Competition Act sent by President Felipe Calderon to the House of Representatives for their consideration, he said that this business sector has been requesting for several years actions be enforced against monopoly practices in the domestic market, and most of all act whenever such practices discourage investment and inhibit a badly needed competition.
He said that it is not fair that businessmen and citizens spend up to 40% more to pay for some service, as compared to other countries, because there is no competition in Mexico.
