Program may be suspended for 30 maquiladoras
Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua,- Around 30 maquiladora companies in Ciudad Juarez may be forced to stop foreign trade operations, because they failed to file with the Ministry of the Economy the 2009 Annual Report, which is compulsory.
Martha Alicia Messina Varela., Assistant Representative of the Ministry of the Economy in Ciudad Juarez, said that they had originally found 50 companies had failed to file the report, but 18 of those companies have already observed this obligation and 2 other asked to be removed from IMMEX Program.
She said that companies have until August 31 to file the Annual Report, otherwise IMMEX Program will be definitively cancelled. It is important to mention that maquilador program offers several benefits to companies. On the one side it allows temporary supplies imports, without paying duties, provided those supplies are processed in Mexico and then exported back. In addition, it offers a special taxes scheme, which allows saving up to 90% of taxes paid by a Mexican company, according to information from taxes specialists in maquilador sector.
