US favorite: China or Mexico?
Mexico City,- Strengthening trade links between the United States and Asian countries, which President Obama is pursuing, could be the “final blow” to Mexican exports drop experienced due to the economic crisis, experts agreed.
More than 80% of products sold by Mexico abroad are shipped to its main trade partners: the USA and Canada.
In his trip to Asia, the President of the United States has declared that his country will generate a more pragmatic relationship with the Asian giant, because Chinese accelerated growth “may be a strength for the community of nations”.
However, in the commercial race China has displaced Mexico in the last few years in several sectors that had gained ground in the largest economy in the world, United States, in spite of geographical proximity and low operation costs.
“Rather than seeing it as a long term threat, it must be considered an opportunity to reconvert our production apparatus towards a more competitive and flexible system”, Luis Flores, Senior Economist in Ixe, said.
