Stoppage in GM from June 30 to July 4
General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe Complex will start a technical stoppage on June 30, due to a change of model and equipment in its production lines. Stoppage will end on July 4 and production will restart on Monday, July 7. This stoppage is scheduled every summer by the Company, for maintenance and change of machinery, equipment and tools.
Between 4 thousand 800 and 5 thousand workers will rest during a week; these are workers in the transmissions, engines, assembly, stamping and painting plants, in addition to administrative staff.
As usual, the only labor force that will stay at the Complex will be maintenance and engineering personnel; this time to renew lines and change machinery and equipment.
As a consequence of this scheduled summer technical stoppage around 19 thousand workers in the Region will be affected to some extent, per estimates from CTM, a Mexican workers union.
CTM’s General Secretary has explained that for each direct job at General Motors’ facilities, four to five indirect jobs are generated, so there will be around 19 thousand workers involved in some way.
