Positive outlook for Ciudad Juarez
Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua,- Jose de Jesus Diaz Monarrez, General Secretary of the Workers Union, Federacion Revolucionaria de Trabajadores del Norte (CTM), considers 2010 will be a year of employment recovery.
He said that unlike previous years, in December 2009 companies hired instead of laying off personnel, there were no labor stoppages and no more are scheduled, which promises a positive outlook for the sector in 2010.
“Companies that survived will be strengthened. What had to fall down has already done so, there are no more stoppages and to date none is scheduled for this year”, he said.
Xochitl Diaz Porras, Corporate Affairs Manager, Delphi, said that even if the next 12 months will still be hard, the company is prepared to take advantage of new opportunities arising in the automotive world.
Arnulfo Castro Munive, former chairman of Maquiladoras Association, AMAC, said that the Government has decided a series of increases taking political interests in consideration over true needs of citizens and specially maquilador sector, the economic pillar in this border city and an important economic motor in Mexico.
