Maquila recovers 2,976 jobs
Last March export maquiladora industry in Chihuahua City gained 2,976 jobs, adding to 7,936 jobs recovered in the first quarter. Soledad Maynez Bibriescas, Chairwoman of Maquiladoras Association (AMAC), said that the rebound by maquilador sector is mainly due to improved US economy.
Maynez Bibriescas explained that a recovery in US consumption boosted orders sent to maquiladoras in automotive, electronics and home appliances sectors.
AMAC data show that close to one third of plants in Ciudad Juarez manufacture components for automobiles.
Reports from automotive companies show that cars sales in the United States went up 23% last March, which, according to Maquiladoras Association, influenced orders and the number of people hired in Ciudad Juarez.
