Maquila reactivates cargo transportation
Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua,- Rebound by maquilador sector in Ciudad Juarez brought one thousand 300 cargo trucks back to life, according to Manuel Sotelo Suarez, Chairman of Ciudad Juarez Carriers Association, Asociacion de Transportistas de Ciudad Juarez. He said that in 2008 and 2009, due to the crisis in maquiladora industry caused by US recession, only around 3 thousand trucks were in circulation, taking products from maquilas to El Paso and bringing the supplies required to make them.
He added that the increase in orders and production by maquiladora plants has brought an increase in the demand of units to transport goods and around 4 thousand 300 trucks are operating now. “The rebound by auto transportation sector mirrors what is happening in maquiladora industry”, he said.
