Investments to be made in border states
Matamoros, Mexico,-“It will be border states that receive in 2010 the largest number of investments, because US industries want to cut down logistics costs; therefore, Tamaulipas has great chances”. This was declared by Monica Gonzalez Greer, Chairwoman of the Mexican Council of Export Manufacturing Industry.
Ms. Gonzalez said that even if operation costs may be reduced in border cities because of their proximity to the USA, electric power remains a high operation cost.
She said that the industry’s expectations are developing from 100 to 150 new maquiladora programs throughout the year, mainly in Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Baja California.
