Ford planning to assemble electric version of Fiesta in Cuautitlan
Mexico City,- After presenting its hybrid and electric projects in Frankfurt Autoshow, Ford Motor Company is about to decide if plug-in Fiesta sedan will be assembled in their Mexican plant in Cuautitlan, which as of next April will start shipping the new model with a European design.
A camouflaged 2011 Electric Ford Fiesta sedan was recently seen in the streets of Mexico City by reporters from Motorpress Televisa. What no one knows is if this product will be assembled in Mexico, because production of Fiesta model for Europe was assigned to the plant Ford has in Cuautitlan, State of Mexico.
Due to the fact that Mexico has experience in hybrid cars, because Ford Plant in Hermosillo, Sonora is already manufacturing Fusion with those characteristics (and GM Plant in Ramos Arizpe also produces hybrid Saturn Vue or Chevrolet Captiva), the possibility of assembling electric Fiesta in Mexico should not be ruled out, as executives said in Frankfurt.
Sources close to Ford in Cuautitlan assured to the automotive industry website alvolante.info that the plant has up to 500 Mexican engineers working on the project, which includes, they say, analyzing the possibility to manufacture this electric car in Mexico.
