Automobiles sales drop 6% in Mexico
Mexico City,-In January and February automotive industry sold 5.7% less than last year in Mexico. Nissan Mexicana remains as leader and was the only company that posted a growth, 18% in February, against drops in GM, VW, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and SEAT. Sales in February dropped 3.3%, 59,516 units against 61,578 last year; therefore 2,062 fewer units were sold last month.
Mexican Automotive Industry Association disclosed today February balance, when 59,516 units were sold, 3.3% fewer than in February 2009, when 61,578 units were invoiced.
In January and February automotive industry sold 123,580 units. The drop is larger, almost 6% (5.8) but in accrued figures in the last two years the drop is 32.8%, right in the year the government claims is the year of recovery.
Nissan Mexicana was the only one that increased sales and remains as leader this year; in the first two months of the year their invoicing went up 18%. The company, headed by Jose Muñoz, sold in February 14,451 units, but in the first two months of the year has sold 29,277 vehicles, leaving way behind the second place: GM.
