Volkswagen de Mexico is currently producing an average of 200 Beetle units per shift, and therefore 600 vehicles are ready; that is why there are plans to stop producing around 2,000 units,in order to decrease inventories in dealerships at the USA, where the vehicle is sold also in a five-cylinder 2.5 liter, 150 HP version. Consumer demand for high-cylinder units has dropped in the USA due to high fuel prices, and five-cylinders Beetle is among these cars.
With this first reduction in annual production, it will be difficult for the Company to reach its assembly forecasts for this year, because it is still unknown if this type of partial manufacturing stoppages could be repeated from now until December 31.
Information on this issue is that as of September 1 the third working shift will be elminated, which polarizes workers-employer relations, because the annual labor agreement is being currently revised by Volkswagen and the Union.
