Mexico.- The disaster Japan is living will not affect operations by Pirelli tire company, since their share in that market is almost nil and its growth is focused on Europe and Latin America.Marco Tronchetti Trovera, Pirelli’s President, declared this to the media in Mexico and confirmed they will invest US$250 million here in a new plant at Guanajuato, precisely due to such growth focused on Latin America. This, in addition to the fact that some automotive companies, such as Toyota and Volkswagen, have already announced their plans to increase production capacity in Mexico, he explained.
Last year Pirelli sold 56 million tires, of which 6 million were for trucks. From total figures, one third was sold in Latin America and upon closing this year the goal is growing over 6%, to go from US$5.150 billion invoiced last year, to US5.550 billion, essentially due to the combination of products offered by the company.
