Distrito Federal, Mexico— Nissan Mexicana is negotiating incentives with the Federal Government to start selling their Leaf electric vehicle in the first half of 2013.
Jorge Vallejo, Head of Foreign Relations and Government Affairs for Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean with Nissan, informed that the company is suggesting an incentive to purchase the unit, which is sold for around US$39,000 in the United States.
A preferential price for electric power is also being negotiated, the state-owned power generation and distribution company, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) suggests an exclusive power outlet at the homes of people who own a Leaf to differentiate power consumed by the vehicle. The possibility of preferential highway tolls and exclusive lanes is also being discussed.
Mr. Vallejo pointed-out that there are recharge centers for public vehicles in Mexico City and Aguascalientes, where Leaf units are used as taxis.
