Mexico City.- Strategic geographical location and increasingly qualified and low-cost labor are two of the factors that are attracting to Mexico investments in manufacturing plants and technological production lines. However, even if Mexico is more competitive and its Information and Telecommunications Technologies industry is vigorous, it still needs to offer sophistication.
“In the last few years we have seen Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) being transferred to Asia; to China for products manufacture and to India for services and considering this I think Mexico is trying to recover the lost ground, it is investing in the development of technology and knowledge”, explained Paz Diaz Nieto, Professor in Technological Entrepreneurship Node at TEC de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus.
The Taiwan-based company Foxconn, which provides maquila services to Apple and the South Korean LG Electronics, the second largest screens manufacturer in the world, have been the most recent cases of state-of-the-art manufacturing arriving to Mexico, attracted by its proximity to the United States and inexpensive engineers recruitment in Mexico.
