Mexico City.- In the last 8 years, metal-mechanics industry in Jalisco started a recovery process of over 40% of its production labor force, going from 63,240 workers in 2003 to 91,577 in December 2011, according to a study made on the sector by Jalisco State Information System, Sistema Estatal de Informacion Jalisco (SEIJAL).
Until 2000, metal-mechanics industry in Guadalajara had 88,263 workers registered in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS); however, in the next three years it started a deceleration process and lost over 25,000 jobs. The trend has reverted and up to last year there were more than 90,000 jobs in the sector.
The rebound in the number of jobs obeys to the reactivation of a branch linked to the manufacture and assembly of machinery, equipment, appliances, accessories and electric and electronic appliances and their parts, according to statistics disclosed by SEIJAL, attributing to this branch the largest percentage of jobs recovered (47%).
