Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- The explosive growth of maquiladora industry this year has a sign which arises concern in specialists: a large portion of the jobs generated are either temporary or outsourced, which leads to think that there is no certainty on companies’ expansion. Data from the Mexican Social Security Institute, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, show that in 2012 the jobs generated at Ciudad Juarez amount to 15,138, of which 14,079 belong to maquiladora industry.
However, according to the Mexican statistics agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Geografia e Informatica, maquiladora industry has reached a peak in outsourced personnel.
From the 183,568 people working for maquiladoras as per INEGI’s statistics up to last March, 22,330 (12.2%) are outsourced.
