Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- The dynamism of maquiladora industry is reflecting in the number of projects authorized to operate under this scheme; this year 14 projects have been authorized, while last year it was seven. According to data from the Representation Office of the Ministry of the Economy in Juarez, between January and May 2011, seven projects were authorized to operate as maquiladoras.
This year, in even term, the number of projects authorized to work under Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry Program, Industria Maquiladora, Manufacturera de Exportación (IMMEX), has doubled last year’s figures.
Gustavo Gutierrez Morquecho, Director of the Maquiladoras Association, Asociacion de Maquiladoras Asociacion Civil (AMAC), said that maquiladora industry in Ciudad Juarez is showing strong dynamism. However, he warned that not all the projects authorized this year are new companies, but there are some that have changed their names, that have merged with others or have changed their Maquilador Program for any reason.
