Coahuila, Mexico,- In order to survive to new market conditions, Lear Corporation is undergoing a sewing to welding reconversion process in their Saltillo and Ramos Arizpe Plants, which has forced the Company to lay off 360 workers in 2009, Gilberto Martinez Calderon said.

Mr. Martinez Calderon, General Secretary of CTM Workers Union, said that the process that will change Lear’s business line in some areas is more advanced in Saltillo Plant and could be completed in the first half of 2010.

“Both plants are in some way changing their production lines and this is bringing some certainty to keep the plants here”, he stressed. “Lear Saltillo is now changing production lines, they are now performing welding operations, which previously they did not”, he added.

Martinez Calderon acknowledged the reconversion process has brought the need to dismiss 360 people in both plants.
