Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- 11,084 formal jobs have been recovered this year in Ciudad Juarez, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). The jobs recovered equal 12% of the 91,240 lost by Juarez to the crisis. Data from IMSS show that in April the number of jobs created amounted to 3,257 jobs, the best month for the labor market in two years. Most of the gains on employment are due to growth by the maquilador sector.
During the first four months of the year, the Processing Sector recovered 12,155 jobs, which is the best performance the industry has had for the first 4-month period of a year in a decade.
Jose Luis Armendariz Bailon, Chairman, Maquiladoras Association, said that since late last year maquiladora industry has been constantly expanding. He added that even if not many new companies are arriving, those already installed in Juarez are increasing production, as well as their labor forces.
