Hermosillo, Sonora,- Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the State-owned power company, will. invest MEP$2.964 billion (around US$2.21 million) in a combined cycle plant to generate power in Sonora, one of its kind in Latin America.Manuel Garcia Martinez, Manager of CFE Northeast Division explained that production capacity of the new plant, which construction will start this year, will be 80 megawatts in the solar part and in the combined cycle part it will be 300 megawatts.
He said that the project for a combined cycle plant to generate power in Agua Prieta has the support of international organizations devoted to developin this type of technologies for a more environmentally friendly power generation.
He pointed-out that this plant will be the first of its kind to operate in Latin America and it is a pilot project to be developed by Comision Federal de Electricidad in order to apply it later in order regions in Mexico.
He added that Agua Prieta was chosen for the construction of the plant due to solar radiation in this place throughout the year, which makes it ideal for the project.
