Guadalajara, Jalisco.- Almost a year after Governor Emilio Gonzalez promised economic support for the construction of an Aerospace Technological Center, the State Government recognized they will not allocate MXP$100 million for this project in Jalisco. “We are not considering a certain amount”, Guillermo Espinoza, representative of Jalisco State Government, cleared out before the Mexican Space Agency (Agencia Espacial Mexicana – AEM). He said that what the Governor will do is “allocating resources from other budget items, to be used in subjects related to the Space Agency”.
From the MXP$100 million offered by the State Government to attract to Jalisco AEM’s headquarters, only MXP$500,000 have been invested in the organization – last January – of the national consultation forum on the subject held at Puerto Vallarta and to pay for consultancy services provided by astronaut Rodolfo Neri Vela.
“Let’s remember that this MXP$100 million investment announced by the Governor is for a 3-year term and greatly depends on the time set by the Agency, which currently does not have a Director yet. Once the Director is appointed, he/she will have 90 days to submit his/her work plan. This means that the agency will be working by the summer”, Guillermo Espinoza justified.
