Nuevo Laredo.- Plants expansion has prevailed in Nuevo Laredo; unlike the first half of 2010, maquiladora industry has expanded its industrial plants in the last six months. According to official data from organizations in maquila sector several companies, including Linamar (formerly Visteon), Rheem, Delphi and Fromex, have expanded their production lines in the first semester of 2011, which means recruiting around 1,500 workers.
Juan Jose Molano Jasso, Chairman of the Committee for Nuevo Laredo Industrial Development, Comite para el Desarrollo Industrial de Nuevo Laredo (Codein), explained that plants expansion confirms that foreign companies find more convenient to increase production in Mexico rather than doing it in Asia, for cost reasons, and further considered that such expansions are evidence of the confidence foreign and domestic companies have in Nuevo Laredo.
“Companies are now hiring because they decided to bring production lines from Asia, because costs are lower here”, he said.
