Mexico City — Silao Municipality in Guanajuato will most likely be the site where the US$2 billion investment will be made to build a new Audi plant, where Q5 SUV’s will be produced as of 2016.Audi announced that late this month they will disclose the name of the site they chose for their factory in Mexico and even if it has not been officially confirmed, rumor is that Guanajuato, and specifically Silao, won over Puebla, Queretaro, Coahuila, Jalisco and Nuevo Leon.
Among the main attractions found by Audi in Guanajuato there is Volkswagen Engines Plant, operating in Silao since 2011, Ramon Ascencio Villanueva, Deputy Secretary in the State Ministry of Sustainable Economic Development, affirmed.
If Audi confirms its decision for Silao late in June, Guanajuato would be the seat of three assemblers, two Japanese and one German, with a total investment for around US$3.3 billion, plus the suppliers that join the projects.
