Mexico City,- The number of autos assembled in Mexico in 2010 reached 2 million 260 thousand 776 units, a record figure which represents a 50% increase when compared to 2009 and 7.5% against 2008.Eduardo Solis, Chairman of the Mexican Automotive Industry Association, Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA), said that thanks to the recovery in the US market vehicles assembly was above pre-crisis figures.
“Behavior of markets abroad has a direct influence on our production and what has happened is that we have been gaining a larger share of the US market”, he said.
As far as exports in concerned, Mexican automotive industry also set a record by shipping one million 859 thousand 517 units, 52% more than in 2009 and 14.4% above 2008.
