Mexico City.- The Japanese Company Mitsubishi, United States’ General Electric, the Finnish Vestas and the Spaniard corporation Camesa are some of the companies which could bid for three Aeolian energy projects to be called – in two or three weeks – by the Mexican state-owned power generation company, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).Eduardo Zenteno, Chairman of the Mexican Aeolian Energy Association, said that each of the Aeolian energy parks to be installed in Tehuantepec Isthmus will have capacity to generate 100 megawatts (Mw) and that each Mw requires an investment between US$2 and US$2.5 million.
He said these are projects under the scheme Independent Energy Producer, Productor Independiente de Energía (IPP), which has proved to be effective and profitable, because it is about projects considered with a long term vision; Zenteno is therefore confident the economic crisis will not affect the development of these Aeolian parks.
He said that only Oaxaca and Baja California (where Sempra, Union Fenosa and Fuerza Eolica participate) develop feasible projects to take advantage of wind power to generate electricity. In the rest of the country there are no economic conditions to develop these projects, and he therefore insisted the Government should create mechanisms to foster the generation of renewable energies.
