Mexico City— Even if the maquiladora sector generated more than 93,000 jobs in the last years, wages have practically remained stagnated, according to data from the Mexican Statistics Agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Geografia e Informatica (INEGI).
Last April, the average wage paid in Mexico by maquiladora companies amounted to MXP$8,525, with almost no increase over the MXP$8,471 paid in April 2011.
The labor force went from 1 million 853 to 1 million 946 jobs.
Export and manufacturing maquila industry has stayed competitive in low salaries, which are now even lower than those paid in China, another great investment attraction pole among emerging countries.
When seen over the long term, wages stagnation in maquilador sector becomes even clearer, according to reports from INEGI.
