Last October vehicles sales by Volkswagen de Mexico in the United States fell 10%, Thomas Karig. Gerecht, Corporate Relations and Strategy Vice-president informed, and further announced that Puebla Plant will take early vacations in Jetta and New Beetle production lines.

Manufacture of these two models will be stopped as of next December 10, because “they have met their goals for this year”, to restart activities on the second week of January 2009; this means they will have one month off.

In an interview after entering an agreement with the State of Puebla Government, to allow bureaucrats buy Volkswagen vehicles at affordable prices and with preferential credits, Mr. Karig also confirmed that the assembler will not work next Monday, taking an official long weekend; even though he acknowledged they had not previously considered taking those days off.

He said that workers assigned to Jetta and New Beetle manufacturing, who had already taken vacation this year, will be under a scheme similar to a “technical stoppage” because in December they will be paid only 50% of their salaries, even though he cleared out their benefits remain untouched.
