, General Motors and Volkswagen AG –which had displaced it last year–, thanks to the recovery from the damages caused by the 2011 earthquake and floods in Thailand, a news release from Kuodo news agency informed.
The subsidy granted by the Japanese government on the sale of environment friendly automobiles also contributed to the increase in sales, as did better sales in North America and Asia markets.
Compared to the 4.97 million units sold by Toyota, GM sold 4.67 million in such first semester, and Volkswagen AG sold 4.45 million, posting 3% and 9% growth respectively; however, they were still affected by the crisis of the European debt.
