Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- An agreement between the Ministries of the Economy of the States of Chihuahua in Mexico and New Mexico in the USA will develop a solar energy cluster, where Juarez has potential to both, manufacture and take advantage of sunlight and trade. The document also involves a commercial and industrial development, as well as information exchange for strategies that benefit both states on economic matters.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of the Economy for the State of Chihuahua, Alberto Chretin Castillo and New Mexico’s Minister of the Economy, Jon Barela.
Both ministers said that there is already a portfolio of commercial prospects for the region in the solar and mining cluster, and that these companies will receive information about productivity and conditions on both sides of the border, so that they may choose the one they find most productive.
Chretin Castillo said that this region has ideal weather conditions to generate electricity from sunlight, as well as to manufacture all the elements required for a park of such kind. He further said that they are looking for the way to start producing here photocells and other components soon.
He said that there is much interest in New Mexico for mining products extracted at Chihuahua, which include gold, silver, copper and zinc.
Jose Luis Armendariz Bailon, Chairman, Maquiladoras Association, said that given the manufacturing capacity at the region, it is possible to make here photocells, a product that the United States were buying from China on which a tariff was recently set, which provides Mexico with advantages to manufacture it.
