Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- The growth in automobiles sales in the USA will contribute to keep local maquiladora growth in coming months, according to Miguel Angel Calderon, Vice-president of the State of Chihuahua Economists Association.
Several automobiles assemblers posted increases in sales, above specialists’ expectations. Toyota’s sales went up 60.3%; while Chrysler’s did 20%, General Motors’ increase was 15.5% and Ford’s was 7%.
In spite of the global crisis outlook, between January and May maquiladora industry in Juarez generated 17,412 jobs, according to data from the Maquiladoras Association, Asociacion de Maquiladoras Asociacion Civil (AMAC).
Jose Luis Armendariz Bailon, Chairman, AMAC, said that with this figure maquiladora industry almost meets the 20,000 jobs goal set by AMAC early this year.
