New York.- For the time being, Ford’s plant in Hermosillo, Sonora will be the only one where the new Ford Fusion model will be assembled. Together with Lincoln MKZ production volume is over 300,00 units. However, if demand keeps going up, Ford Fusion could also be assembled at some of the plants the company has in the United States. With Fusion platform, daily production will go from 56 to 62 units, which means operating at full capacity in 3 working shifts, 6 days per week, according to Gabriel Lopez, President and CEO, Ford Mexico.
Ford currently produces in Mexico Fiesta model at Cuautitlan Plant, assembling 155,000 units and manufacturing 580,000 engines per year, which are exported to Brazil, United States and Canada; but, of course, some stay in Mexico. For all the above, and the US$1.3 billion Ford is investing to produce Fusion, the number of employees will go from 8,100 to 8,400 by year-end.
