Mexico City.- Maquiladora companies offering services in Mexico reached the largest number in February 2012: 1,137 a 4-year peak, INEGI informed.
The states with the largest number of export maquiladora companies not devoted to manufacturing are Baja California, Nuevo Leon and Jalisco, according to statistics from INEGI, the Mexican statistics agency.
These companies generated MXP$14.917 billion for the country this month. “Mexico is very skillful in attracting foreign investment, and this may be observed in the construction of maquilador scheme; it is now even more competitive than China, due to the increase in costs there. In addition, the European recession is taking capital flows to destinations with larger certainty, but there are not many Mexican companies planning to establish abroad”, said Luis Aguirre, Chairman, National Council of Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry, Consejo Nacional de Maquiladora y Manufactura de Exportación (Index).
