Mexico City.- The mining sector could invest around US$4 billion in Mexico this year in new projects, expansions, training, environment and modernization with new technology.
In a press release the Mining Chamber, Camara Minera de Mexico (Camimex), pointed-out that the amount is similar to that spent in 2011, and that there will be 15 projects under advanced exploration stage in 2012.
“Historical investments in the sector will be consolidated, and production of most minerals is expected to continue increasing”, they say.
They reminded that Mexican mining industry ended 2011 breaking production records for most minerals, with significant investment and new jobs generated.
The value of production in 2011 is estimated in US$17.5 billion, 26% above the record set the previous year: US$13.9 billion.
