Mexico City.- Jobs generation by manufacturing industry slowed down last April when compared to even month in 2011; growth dropped to 1.6% from 4.4%, according to figures from the Mexican Statistics Agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI).
Employment in manufacturing sector went up in the following sub-sectors: transportation equipment manufacturing, up 13%; basic metallic industries, 5.5%; machinery and equipment, 5.2%; leather and fur tanning and finish and products made of leather, fur and substitute materials, 4.5%; plastics and rubber industry, 2.5% and chemical industry 2%.
Seasonally-adjusted figures also show a deceleration of manufacturing employment in April when compared to March, for employment in the sector grew 0.16%, while in the previous month it had grown 0.48%.
