Mexico.- Two new projects in automobiles assembly field in Mexico will be announced before next March –when political campaigns start– for a total amount of US$2.3 billion, according to sources from the automotive sector. Ford will invest US$1.3 billion to expand their stamping and assembly plant in Hermosillo, Sonora and make adaptations to assemble the new Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, which would generate around 1,000 new direct jobs.
Also, Chrysler —in an alliance with Fiat— will disburse around US$1 billion from 2012 to 2013 to build a new plant in Derramadero, Coahuila, where a Fiat van will be assembled, using Ducato’s platform.
