Sao Paulo, Brazil.- Gerdau, the Brazilian steel company, informed they will take up again a plan to build a plant in Mexico, where they will invest R$1.1 billion (US$539 million) to produce cold rolled steel sheets.
The plant will have capacity to produce one million tons of steel and 700 thousand tons of laminated products, and should start operating in 2014.
Gerdau’s raw steel production posted 1.5% year-to-year drop in the second quarter, falling to 5.046 billion metric tons, but went up 2.1% over the first quarter.
Sales posted 2.4% year-to-year drop, but went up 1.1% over the three previous months.
