Mexico City.- General Motors announced they will invest US$420 million in Mexico in three new projects for their production complexes located in San Luis Potosi and Guanajuato. Such projects are the assembly of the new Chevrolet Trax sub-compact van, the new generation of full size pick-up trucks and a new double-clutch manual transmission.
One thousand new direct jobs will be created with this new investment; to which purpose recruitment will be gradual throughout the projects execution.
President Felipe Calderon headed in Mexico City the announcement made by the assembler and pointed-out that in GM’s San Luis Potosi production complex, located in Villa de Reyes, US$220 million will be invested.
From this figure, US$120 million will be allocated to increase capacity in the assembly plant, to produce the new Chevrolet Trax sub-compact van.
The remaining US$100 million will be invested in the construction of a new plant that will produce, as of the fourth quarter of this year, a new line of automated double-clutch manual transmissions.
US$200 million will be invested in Silao production complex to assemble a new generation of pick-up trucks as of 2013.
These investments are part of the US$900 million package announced by General Motors in July 2011.
