Ciudad Juarez.- Last June employment in Ciudad Juarez slowed down again, because only 34 formal jobs were created, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS). IMSS’s data show that the sector that lost the largest number of jobs was Processing Industry, which had been the driving force for the rebound experienced at the city since late last year.
Figures based on IMSS’s new methodology show that in May 2012 there were 329,132 workers registered in Ciudad Juarez (not Juarez Zone). Upon ending June the number went up but only to 329,166, which means an increase of barely 34 jobs this month.
Throughout the year, the monthly jobs gain had been over 2,000 jobs, with an average of 3,028 jobs every 30 days.
In the first half of the year, Ciudad Juarez achieved 15,172 jobs growth, thanks to the expansion of the industrial sector in automotive and home appliances branches.
