Torreon, Coahuila.- As a consequence of Japan earthquake, companies there could consider Mexico, and especially Coahuila, to receive assembly and supplies manufacturing plants for automotive and electronics industries, and even for the production of food products. Carlos Usacanga Prieto, Professor in Universidad Nacional de Mexico (UNAM) and Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus, dictated the conference “Earthquake in Japan and its Global Implications”.
He said that worldwide implications must be analyzed after the event, considering bilateral trade, as well as opening and migration to other countries of plants or production lines originally planned for Japan, and Mexico could be a candidate.
“The State of Coahuila is a natural candidate to receive those plants. The earthquake affected companies linked to supplies and essential components manufacture for automotive and electronics industries”.
In order to avoid supplies shortage and affecting global production, there is the possibility of plants migration, and Mexico is a potential receiver.
