Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- Governor Cesar Duarte signed this week a bill which purpose is giving fiscal incentives to local industry supplying maquiladora industry, and to transnational companies that buy supplies produced by Chihuahua-based companies. The bill is still to be approved by the Congress, which will organize worktables in the next three months, to include as many opinions as possible that help take advantage of a market of at least US$20 billion per annum.
Data from the Mexican Statistics Agency Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Geografia e Informatica, show that last year maquiladora industry established in Ciudad Juarez spent MXP$285.528 billion in supplies. This equals 101 times the annual budget for Juarez, MXP$22.804 billion in 2012.
Governor Duarte said that the purpose of this initiative is recovering pre-crisis employment levels in Ciudad Juarez, and that he will continue working for a special fiscal scheme for the city.
