Mexico City.- The automotive industry will close 2012 with new investments for almost US$6 billion, which represents more than twice the investments made in 2011.
Luis Olive Hawley, Head of ProMexico’s Unit to Promote International Investment and Business, said that until today US$3.720 billion have been received, in addition to the US$2 billion announced by Audi to produce Q5 in Puebla.
Mr. Olive Hawley said that Hyundai Motor Company will also start building an auto parts factory in Tijuana, Baja California, mainly to produce automatic transmissions for their plant in the United States, investing US$130 million.
He said that these investments are the result of incentives found by automotive plants in Mexico, which, in addition to the country’s geographical location, include the excellence rating Mexican manufactures have among countries members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
“Mexico ranks fifth in automotive manufactures. Some OECD indicators say that what is produced in Mexico has very good quality”.
That is why Mexico has been chosen to establish several automotive plants, generating a significant number of jobs due to the production chain they develop.
