Mexico City.- In the first five months of the year, the number of automobiles exported and imported from and to ports in Mexico posted 29.5% year-to-year increase, going from 386,970 units to 500,963. According to statistics published by the General Ports Directorate, both exports and imports of automotive units grew; exports went from 270,568 units in January/May 2011 to 372,382 in the first five months of this year; while imports climbed from 116,402 to 128,581 in even term.
Imports through Lazaro Cardenas Port in the Pacific Coast were much higher than exports, going from 32,943 units in the first five months of last year to 67,523 units from January to May 2012, for an increase of almost 100%.
