Mexico.- Foreign auto part manufacturers have invested US$6.908 billion in this Administration, four times as much as the investments made by assemblers, according to data from the Ministry of the Economy. On the other hand, from January 2007 to March 2012 Mexico received US$1.684 billion in Foreign Direct Investment from automobiles and trucks assemblers.
The assemblers themselves have made some investments in auto parts manufacture, since they usually produce engines and have some cast and stamp plants.
“In the last five years, most of the autos and commercial vehicles assembly companies and a significant number of companies producers of automotive equipment, parts and components have made big investments in Mexico”, Luis Lozano, Leading Partner for Automotive Industry with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, said.
These investments have been aimed to expand production capacity and equip, modernize and automate plants.
