Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- Specialists pointed as a reason for concern the fact that Maquiladora Industry is the only sector posting growth in employment at the city, because this increases dependency on such industry at times of uncertainty.
Data from the Mexican Social Security Institute, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, show that 93% from the 15,138 jobs generated in Juarez between January and May were created by processing industry.
From these 15,000 jobs created, processing industry contributed with 14,709. Service to companies sector, which gathers outsourcing firms, most of which provide companies with labor, posted a gain of 767 jobs.
Alfonso Arenaza Cortes, Economist with Caseem, the Human Resources firm, said that the fact that the economy depends on maquiladora sector only is a reason of concern. He also spoke about the urgency of sketching a plan to diversify local economy and develop other economic sectors, because there is great global uncertainty and Ciudad Juarez depends on what happens in Europe, Asia and the United States.
