Felipe Calderon promotes investment for Mexico in Dallas
Dallas,- The Mexican President Felipe Calderon encouraged US business to invest in Mexico last. Tuesday, by saying that Mexico has “solid economic grounds” and that delinquency is being fought. Caldron criticized Washington’s immigration policy, and said that US investment in Mexico could reduce the pressure for Mexicans emigrating – legally or not – to the USA. The Mexican President spoke before around 25 businessmen and social leaders in Dallas. Calderon arrived last Tuesday to Dallas from New Orleans, where a summit with President George W. Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had just finished.

Mexico will invest in Nano-technology
Mexico,- The Mexican Government is planning to invest at least US$30 million in 2009 to foster and promote the development of nano and micro-technology. This amount will be used in foster and development, as well as in creating the infrastructure required to provide an impulse to nanotechnology and micro- technology in Mexico, declared a Government Officer. She further said that even if this amount is small when compared to the size of Mexican economy, it is the first step to provide an impulse to the sector. She acknowledged that Mexico arrived late to the development of this branch of high technology, after knowing, for example, that the USA will invest, only to foster nanotechnology and micro-technology, close to US$1.5 billion.

Ford and Chrysler ask assemblers to invest in plants in Mexico
Mexico, April,- Ford Motor and Chrysler asked assemblers which have recently arrived in the. Mexican automotive market, to invest in plants and not only sell models. During AutoMotor 2008 Forum, organized by the Mexican Car Dealers Association, Asociacion Mexicana de Distribuidores de Automotores (AMDA), Louise K. Goeser, Ford Motor Chairwoman and General Director, said that assemblers must be committed to Mexico and share with dealers both economic risks and markets. "We must be committed to Mexico and its society. Automotive industry in Mexico means a lot more than selling cars; it means growth, development and wealth not only for assemblers but for Mexico as well”, she said. “Automotive industry is one of the most important for Mexico, and for many other countries, because it greatly contributes to jobs generation and economic development”

GM Ramos Arizpe reduces production due to recession in the USA
General Motors plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, in northern Mexico. decreased last March the production of cars and trucks assembled, by an average of 300 units per day, sources close to the Company in Saltillo informed to alvolante.com, and stopped producing close to 13,000 units. The strike by the auto parts company American Axle in the United States could be over in a few hours or days, but it has affected parts supply to General Motors de Mexico in Ramos Arizpe, especially for the assembly of HHR cars sold in North America markets. As a matter of fact, these sources said that production of this vehicle has stopped in Coahuila, but the assembly of Chevy C2 and Chevrolet Captiva has also been affected.

A Brazilian manufacturer of products for tires will open a plant in Mexico
Rio de Janeiro,- Borrachas Vipal, the largest Brazilian manufacturer of products for tires and. tubes, will invest US$40 million to build a plant in Mexico, according to spokespersons from the Company quoted by the local newspapers today. The factory will be built in the State of Aguascalientes and will start producing in the summer of 2009, with a capacity of 14,400 tons per year, informed Vipal’s International Business Director, Maria Locatelli, to Valor Newspaper. Borrachas Vipal, with three plants in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul and capacity to produce 144,000 tons per year, has a complete product line for retreads and repairs for all types and sizes of vehicles.

Isuzu inaugurates 19th of 25 dealer agencies
Toluca, State of Mexico,- Isuzu Motors de Mexico inaugurated its 19th dealer agency in Mexico, of the 25 they are planning to have by the end of the year; this new agency is located in Toluca, State of Mexico and Valcor Group is in charge. With a MEP$7 million investment, on one thousand square meters the premises will provide sale, post-sale and maintenance services, according to Jorge Canales, the agency’s manager. Toluca is an industrial zone, where several companies in the automotive sector are located, both devoted to manufacturing and to sales, therefore, they are expecting to sell between 15 and 20 units per month. During the event, the first vehicle sold to Dias Express - which transports goods and high priority documents – was delivered.

Prolec GE will invest US$50 million
Monterrey,- Prolec GE, a company devoted to the production of electric transformers, which partners include the Monterrey-based company Xignux, and the US Company GE, announced they will invest more than US$50 million to expand the production capacity of their plant located in Apodaca. The expansion will focus on two Prolec GE products line, namely power transformers and commercial transformers, to meet the needs of companies in the electric industry, engineering firms, developers and independent energy generators. At maximum capacity, Prolec GE’s new project will employ 1 thousand 500 people, increasing the Company’s labor force by 37%, going from the current 4 thousand employees to 5 thousand 500.

Floracopio, Distribution Center in Toluca, inaugurated
Mexico City,- Floracopia, a flowers storage, sale and distribution center will be officially. inaugurated today; it is expected to be the largest of its kind in Mexico. Floracopio’s facilities are located in Toluca, State of Mexico and have a 13 hectares surface, which puts it among the largest in Mexico and among the 3 largest in Latin America. To date, the group has 630 members from eight, out of the 17, flower producer states in Mexico. The total investment amounts to MEP$42 million. Alejandro Virchez, Floracopio General Director, said that through this organization flower growers will be benefited, in addition, from technology transference, sales techniques, a modern infrastructure and a proper environment to handle and sell their products, as well as the use of air transportation to access new domestic and international markets.

Korean company in the metal-mechanics sector to establish in Coahuila
An agreement has been reached for a new project, a company in the. metal-mechanics field; there are but a few details to receive the investment, informed yesterday Jorge Alanis, Minister of Economic Foster in Coahuila State Government. “Gerardo Gonzalez Garcia and Enrique Mier Campos, both of them officers in the Ministry of Economic Foster, arrived last Saturday from a trip they made to Korea to hold discussions with a company that is planning to establish a plant in Coahuila; they were there to make the corresponding studies and the results they brought are very positive”, Mr. Alanis declared. When asked about the company’s business line, the amount of the investment and the number of new jobs to be created, he only said that “You will know this when Governor Humberto Moreira officially announces this investment”.

Hermosillo has special signaling for hotels
Hermosillo,- With an investment over MEP$470 thousand, signs for hotel zones were posted in. Hermosillo, as part of the actions jointly undertaken by the State Government, the City Council and Sonora’s Hotels and Motels Association. Before the President of the National Hotels and Motels Association, Rafael Armedariz Blas, the President of the Association in Sonora, Eduardo Lemmenmeyer González, said that “this work was planned a year and a half ago and it has now come true with this official delivery, by the two government levels, so it is important that we keep this team work and increase the number of signs, which in this first stage is 127”. Mr. Armendariz also pointed-out that they are considering “the possibility of holding the next General Meeting of the Association’s Board of Directors in Sonora; not only for the satisfaction caused by witnessing the job being made here, but also for its natural beauty and its people”.
