Motorola is one of the few companies who can show the great
confidence and support it has in Mexico with the creation of direct and indirect jobs for
thousands of people.
Motorola started its activities in 1960 with headquarters in the Federal District. In
1966, they installed their first maquiladora plant in Nogales, Sonora and in 1969, the
first modern plant of semiconductors in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In 1972, they established
their first commercializing offices in Mexico D.F. In 1979, a building for Motorola de
Mexico, S.A., was constructed. In 1986, a new automated plant in León, Guanajuato was
installed. In 1994, the Corporate Building was constructed, applying key technology, the
reason it is classified as an intelligent building. In 1995, the new plant of beepers and
pagers in Chihuahua, Chih. was constructed, it is one of the largest plants of the state,
employing 1,000 people and is considered the most modern of its type in Latin America. In
1996, they extended the plant of semiconductors in Guadalajara, Jal., this way, they
position themselves as the largest plant of its type in Latin America, receiving an
elevated number of visitors of other countries as well as clients. In 1966, the Service
Center of Radiolocalizators in Mexico City was constructed.
In 1968, Motorola was characterized for being the first company belonging to the
National Program of the Maquiladora Industry. Nowadays, SECOFI considers Motorola as a
"highly exporting" company, generating foreign currencies for the country and
contributing to a favorable commercial balance.
