Kemet de Mexico: (Matamoros Pant)
Its activity consists in "the assembly of capacitors", a capacitor is an electronic unit installed in a circuit which allows storing the desired quantity of electric energy and is used in a great diversity of electric devices like: televisions, radios, earphones, airplane control systems, space vehicles, computers, cellular phones, etc.
In Cleveland, Ohio, in the year 1930, Union Carbide started working in the market of electronic components; in the 40’s the demand of these products suffered a considerable boost and in the year 1955, when the capacitors based on tantalum were used for the first time as electronic components, Union Carbide Corporation, decided to compete in the new market of capacitors under the name KEMET.


This name is composed by two words: chemistry and metallurgy. Our headquarters are in Greenville City, South Carolina and it is there that the production of ceramic and tantalum capacitors started, until the year 1967. Later, more exactly, the 26th of 1969 our companies were founded in the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, which were working under the name "National Carbon Eveready, S. A", beginning with a small pilot assembly plant of Capacitors de Tantalum (Micrón) with 100 employees.

One of the fundamental reasons of the creation of our plant here in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, have been the facilities conceded by the Mexican Government to foreign investors, within the National Program of Industrialization of the Northern Frontier of the Country.

On the 1st of January 1973, our company modified its name to the one its has been using since the start up, disappearing "National Carbon Eveready, S.A". In a desire of improvement based on effort and work, our company extended its range of products and expanded its operations in Matamoros.

In 1987, the Superior Management, changing its name to KEMET Electronics Corporation acquired the company. In the year 1991, we initiated operations in Monterrey, N.L., and in 1992 it is a public company. In 1998 operations were started in Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas.

Nowadays KEMET is present in the United States with plants in Fountain Inn SC, Shelby NC, Mauldin SC, Simpsonville SC and Greenwood SC, Shelby NC y in Brownsville Tx. In Mexico, KEMET has a presence of two plants in the City of Monterrey, NL, one in Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas, two in the City of Matamoros, Tamaulipas and one Logistic Center in Guadalajara, Jalisco. We have 12,120 workers in our plants.

At the moment, KEMET is the biggest manufacturer of tantalum and the fourth manufacturer worldwide of ceramic capacitors and divers layers. The production is measured in billions of pieces per year, thus KEMET continues growing and prospering. KEMET de Mexico celebrated proudly in the month of November its 30 years in Matamoros. This celebration allowed sharing with our people this big achievement.
